Firing a Cannon
There is absolutely no way to describe the thrill of firing a cannon accurately – you simply have to try it. With the Lancashire Militia, you now have the opportunity to experience that thrill for yourself!
From the first flash and plume of flame as you light the powder, through to the final explosion: you’ll be hooked. There is nothing (but nothing!) that can prepare you for the excitement of making that ‘BANG!’ and no feeling quite like the one that you take away with you, the feeling of: “I did that!”
Firing a cannon can be dangerous, of course, but with our highly skilled and qualified team to guide you, you have nothing to worry about. They can help you with the operation of the weapon and will handle the gunpowder so you can safely enjoy the experience.
Weddings
Our Lord General and his officers can offer you a full guard of honour as you enter and exit your wedding ceremony. Receive a gun salute during the reception (timed to your request) with the option of the Bride and Groom firing the cannon after the ceremony. (For safety reasons, this has to be at the discretion of the Lord General).
Opening Events
Do you have an event you would like to open with a bang? Then call in the Militia, and do away with a large pair of scissors and some ropey ribbon! We can launch your event in a way that no-one is likely to forget in a hurry – with the firing of one of our reproduction 17th Century cannons. We can also offer fully-kitted and trained 17th Century military, who can perform drills and displays.
Maybe you’d like to recapture a bit of Old England? Then allow our Living History to join you at your show and take a walk through time. If you have the idea, we may be able to make it come to life – call us for further details.
Birthdays and Anniversaries
Perhaps you’d like some dashing swordsman to fight for your hand at your 21st? Or maybe you’d just like something to impress: sword displays, musketeers … the list is endless and the Militia can provide. We can guarantee to make your event go with a bang! Garden parties will never be the same – but be aware, you’ll need a big garden!

Musket Displays
Including drill display and firing with black powder. Night firing is spectacular.
Cannon Fire
We have a number of cannon that can be fired individually or as a dramatic volley. Like muskets, by night this is even more spectacular.
Pyrotechnic Displays
Our pyrotechnic team can make your imagination become a reality. All our cannons are not loaded with live ammunition (guess why!), but we can rig displays so that the cannon fire appears to hit. Ground Charges, Air Charges, Mortars – we have them all – and along with our qualified and experienced team you can be sure of a stunning display.
Firework Displays
The sky is the limit our experienced team will help you plan a display that will amaze and delight all ages.
